Lesson 4 – Security features

Overview

Security in IoT and embedded devices is becoming increasingly important as more interconnected devices are employed in the field each year, and new kinds of cyberthreats emerge daily.

The protection of device security and the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data is crucial across all industries, particularly in sectors like medical and automotive, where device failures can directly impact human lives. This imperative holds true for any application where safeguarding data and ensuring continuous, uninterrupted operation are critical.

In this lesson, we will first cover the basics of information security and then focus on the most important security features available in the nRF54L Series devices.

Objective

  • Learn about the basic concepts of information security in embedded devices.
  • Understand the concepts of secure boot and secure attestation and how they work in the nRF54L Series.
  • Gain information about key management and secure key storage.
  • Learn about the Cryptographic Accelerator Engine (CRACEN) and what features differentiate it from the cryptos in previous series devices.
  • Get an understanding of the concept of hardware isolation in the nRF54L Series.
  • Evaluate tamper detection and resilience against physical attacks.
